the subway stations of stockholm, sweden.
april 2022
ladies and gentlefolk, we have reached the final stop of our 2022 trip: stockholm, sweden! it was quite an adventure getting here from the faroes (a story i may or may not get into later), but i think this city was the one that surprised me the most. probably because i had done the least amount of research and thus didn’t really know what to expect!
one thing i did stumble upon while researching the city was that most of their subway stations are themed and dedicated as public art spaces! what a unique way to explore a city.
for some of these stations, i definitely went out of our way to make sure we stopped in and walked around. others were just stops along the way to other places or happenstance.
regardless of the artwork and themes, i don’t think i’ve ever been in a metro system that was so natural and cavernous. the bedrock and cave-like spaces that are the canvas for much of the art are pretty awe-inspiring themselves.
if i had to pick a favorite… probably rådhuset, but kungsträdgården was definitely the most interesting and complex in design to walk around.
exploring stockholm via its subway stations was definitely the most unique and interesting way we’ve ever gotten around a city. wish we’d had more time to see even more, but glad we were able to see what we did.
