barrel and ashes for brunch.
on a hot and weirdly muggy sunday, we were craving both barbecue and something new. it was clearly time to try the texas barbecue at studio city's barrel and ashes. we were seated at the "chef's table", which is really just an extension of the counter to the open kitchen.
the breakfast items were great, and very filling. as usual, our eyes were bigger more ambitious than our stomachs and we ordered too much. it was all quite tasty, and we still finished it all, but we may have had serious food coma afterward. as for the barbecue, we had pulled pork and spare ribs. the pulled pork was juicy, smoky and had a healthy dose of vinegar - james approved! the meat on the ribs came right off the bone without falling apart, and also nice and smoky. the pickled vegetables that came with were great for cutting through all the protein. we need to go back another time to try the brisket, which we've heard amazing things about.
