baroo, arts district.
february 2024
we went to baroo earlier this year on lunar new year’s eve (and while they had a special LNY menu the following day, i believe we had their standard menu). some of my favorite tasting menus over the last couple of years have been korean (see: jua in nyc and jungsik in seoul) so i was really looking forward to this one.
the space was dark and cozy, and i was particularly excited that they not only had a great cocktail list utilizing korean alcohol and ingredients, they also had a korean sool pairing option with the meal.
the seven course dinner was a beautiful journey through so many intricate flavors and textures, while still being deeply comforting. for the main, we could choose between their beef short rib or pork collar. as usual, we each chose one so we could try both, and both were excellent. my favorite course of the night would have to be the rice dish that followed though!
this was definitely one of the best dining experiences we had this year in LA, so i can see why they were named restaurant of the year by the LA times for 2024. absolutely worth a visit.
