dinner and a show at Q sushi.
shortly after we got back from our amazing iceland trip in the spring (yes! we went to iceland! that post will hopefully be coming soon, but i took SO. MANY. PICTURES.), it was my birthday! as a treat to myself, i booked dinner for us at Q sushi in downtown LA. it's omakase only, and a set price of $165 per person, definitely a bit of a splurge - but worth it! it's unique as one of the very, very few places outside of japan serving edo-style sushi. clarissa wei provides a nice history lesson over at KCET.
this was one of the best dining experiences i've had in a long time, with an emphasis on experience. it was a quiet night, with only us and one other couple at the counter, which afforded us an intimate view of chef rui's artistry and care in preparing our meal. i was so fascinated with watching everything unfold before us between courses that i didn't take any notes on what we ate - some is obvious, but i've forgotten so many of the specifics (there were 19 courses!) that i'll just leave you with the photos. it goes without saying that everything tasted amazing too. super fresh, lots of nuance - i didn't want the meal to end!
it's absolutely worth a visit if you can afford it, and definitely worth saving up for!
