noodles and dumpling heaven at JTYH.
a lot of my posts tend to be at nicer restaurants that i only go to for a special occasion, so i bring my camera to remember the occasion. for some, i might go once or twice a year, because there are simply too many restaurants in this city, and i can't afford to eat at them all the time. but there are several restaurants that i frequent a lot, because they are cheap and delicious and comforting and easy, but i never think to bring my camera. but since these places are some of my favorites, i am really going to try and make an effort to share them here as well. first up is JTYH restaurant, a chinese restaurant located in the san gabriel valley. no one knows what the name means, it's just what's on the building. their "real" (english) name, as seen on the menu, is heavy noodle 2, but in english, everyone just knows it as JTYH.
as their real name implies, they are best known for their noodles. especially their knife-shaved noodles, which very few restaurants actually do AND it's one of my favorite things on this earth. their hand-pulled noodles, cat ear noodles are also great; and they hand-make all the dumplings in house as well. special tip - ask them which dumplings they made fresh that day and order those! even though they're all made in house, they make lots of a single kind and freeze them to be used later, so if you're eating there, the ones not yet frozen are super fresh and tasty. however, you can also buy the frozen ones in packs of 20 to take home and steam/boil/fry them yourself.
i apologize for my poor captioning - the dish names could be totally inaccurate to the menu. my family always orders in chinese so i have no clue what the english names ares, so i'm doing my best translation.
