april 2024

on our wine tasting day in the cape winelands, our driver made lunch reservations for us at chefs warehouse at maison. the grounds were beautiful and very family friendly. there were even chickens and other farm animals making the rounds.

foxenburg queso blanco, red pepper, chilli, lavash, garden herbs, hazelnut.

we ordered their “tapas for 2” expecting just a few small bites, but it was an entire tasting menu and we were absolutely stuffed by the end (but also very happy because all of it was so delicious).

game fish sashimi, toasted almond, coconut & lemongrass dressing.

biltong-spiced venison loin, sunflower, trout roe, ricotta.

ancient grains.

yellowfin tuna tartar, granny smith apple, cucumber.

yellowfin tuna seared, pine nut.

free-range pork belly, spiced prawn, roasted corn, saffron.

pea risotto, boudin noir, cultured cream, chive.

i loved the range of ingredients and spices that went into the different courses. it felt very international, without being forced. i wish we could have also done a wine pairing, but we were honestly trying to sober up after all the drinking we had already done (and had still yet to do!).

north indian spiced line-fish, dahl, okra, parath, mango atchar.

free range lamb, pickled fig, asparagus, smoked cashew, pomegranate.

chickens!
