after our time in the cape winelands, we headed into cape town for a few days. we booked a whole day tour of the cape peninsula through localplaces. we knew there were beautiful sights to see, but our guide gerald really gifted us so much more than that. we certainly had the option to just be shown around for the day, but he asked if we were interested in learning about the history of the cape as well - to which we enthusiastically said yes! throughout the day he shared so much of his knowledge and passion, starting with the indigenous peoples, the arrival of the portuguese and other europeans, going all the way to the end of apartheid. we truly learned so much.

we started driving south on the western side of the peninsula, along chapman’s peak drive, towards the cape of good hope. the views were absolutely stunning.

it was a gorgeous day, but it was windy AF the entire time. definitely felt like we had to take particular care to not be blown over as we walked the steps up to and from the lighthouse at cape point.

after cape point, we headed north up the peninsula on the eastern side. stopping in kalk bay for lunch (more on that in a future post), and backtracking down to boulders beach to see a penguin colony!

our last coastal stop was the very scenic muizenberg beach, before passing through groot constantia (south africa’s oldest wine estate) on our way back to the city.
