the potluck club, cape town, south africa.

april 2024

our last night in cape town was also my birthday! we celebrated with dinner at the potluck club. it’s on the top/sixth floor of a very cool, renovated industrial building and afforded us some very pretty views (especially since we booked a table for sunset).

beer & a cocktail, i forget which.

taco 2.0: linefish ceviche, black bean puree, charred corn salsa, avocado, chipotle dressing.

when doing research for where to eat in cape town, potluck club kept coming up over and over. sometimes that actually makes me avoid a place since it usually ends up being over-hyped. there was enough substance reading between the lines that i decided to take a chance and i’m so glad i did because we absolutely loved it.

sashimi salad, avocado guacamole, grapefruit pearls, mint oil, toasted rice, nuac chom dressing.

seared tuna, tom yum broth, basil oil, tamarind sambal, cashew nut satay.

cape malay crispy cauliflower, malay pickle, apricot mebos, chili sambal.

lobster special.

the menu pulled from both south african and international influences, and i was surprised by how many different southeast asian flavors there were. each dish we ordered was beautifully plated and delicious and had a surprising depth and complexity to it. it’s impossible to choose a favorite.

mussel, braised beef tongue, black rice, kale chicharron, fennel flowers, mussel and parsley veloute.

mussels revealed.

smoked beef filet with black pepper and truffle cafe au lait.

quince malva pudding.
