snapshots from taipei, taiwan.
april 2023
we hadn’t been back to taiwan together since a 24-hour layover back in 2015, which is simply far too long to be away from the motherland. since we were at the tail end of three weeks of travel, we took it easy and wandered neighborhoods based on what i was craving and seeing places we haven’t been on past trips.
i feel nostalgic when i see all the scooters and window/AC cages. it’s quintessentially taiwan for me.
we spent some time walking around lungshan temple.
we also tried to stop by the bopilao historic block, but unfortunately it was closed that day.
i’ve always flown in and out of taoyuan international airport outside of the city, but it turns out there is an older, smaller one in taipei as well. we stumbled upon it on our way to something else and it was a fun surprise.
we also paid a visit to the taipei fine arts museum, which leaned heavily contemporary and we really enjoyed.
we went to shilin night market and it just wasn’t the same anymore. due to regulation changes over the years, all the food was moved into an underground food court, so walking around the streets and stores felt very sparse and empty relative to how i remember it, or even how other night markets are today.
it was so nice to be back after so long, and i really didn’t take that many pictures this time around compared to south korea.jenn.la/posts/tag/okinawa and okinawa.. but of course, we were really in taipei for the food, and those posts are coming up next!
