steak and whisky, hermosa beach.
for james’s birthday dinner, we headed down to hermosa beach to try out a new-to-us place called steak & whisky. i’ve already mentioned that james loves cars, so we’d already done supercars in vegas and the porsche experience center. another passion of his is whisky, so this was the perfect place to top off his birthday shenanigans.
the vibes here are all cozy and rustic (and even a little cowboy western), with dark walls but big windows that let in lots of light until the sun goes down. they also have a huge whisky collection (as one would hope given a name like steak & whisky) and the best part is that you can get 1 oz. pours of anything, which allowed james to try more whiskies than he normally would (five in total! just one cocktail for me).
the food was quite good too - lighter, more “californian” takes on your standard steakhouse fare. the fresh house bread (aka some of the best dinner rolls i’ve ever had) with honey butter (whipped butter with honey that you mix yourself) is a must-order in my opinion. so good!
for the “steak” portion of the evening, we decided to split a tomahawk. it was delicious but huge, and we definitely didn’t finish it, or the sides, or the dessert. oops! we had plenty of leftovers to enjoy the following day though.
