a day in alice springs.
after we left port douglas where we dove the great barrier reef, we headed into the red centre of australia, landing at alice springs. we spent one day there before setting out on our road trip south towards uluru. after the extreme heat and humidity of tropical port douglas, the dry heat of the desert was a welcome relief.

for breakfast/brunch, we fell in love with page 27 cafe, their big hearty breakfasts and amazing smoothies.
Alice Springs Desert Park
we spent the rest of the day at alice springs desert park. it was a super neat way to see and learn about the flora and fauna of the different types of desert in australia.
their nocturnal house was great. it was super dark, so the pictures aren’t great, but there were many species that you probably would never get to see otherwise - like quolls, bilbies and bats. they had quite a few reptiles in there as well!
they have an amazing birds of prey show in their nature theatre, where we got to see owls, magpies, hawks and other birds in action. it was definitely one of the highlights of the park, so we’re really glad we got to see it.
there are several aviaries scattered about the park as well, and while some separate you from the birds with glass, some of them are completely immersive. we got to see lots of beautiful and colorful birds up close.
